Intel, the largest chipmaker in the world, has announced to halt production in its five older factories, and similarly the company will close its two existing assembling and testing facilities in Philippines and Malaysia.

Intel revealed in a statement that the move at four plants and with other supporting functions would nearly affect 5-6 employees globally. However, all of these employees wouldn’t leave, as some of them would also be offered jobs in other Intel facilities the action will be taken in two steps: now and in the end of 2009.

Chuck Mulloy, an Intel spokesperson, said that the move was related to the call that was made in its earnings conference last week. In that Conference Company’s financial officer Stacey Smith had announced that the company would take some immediate actions to decrease the utilization levels in different factories stop oversupplies.

“To make these older facilities capacity offline is a part of long term planning process, however, the current slowdown made us to accelerate the process,” Chuck added.

Apple Inc. has already issued an advisement bulletin to channel partners that advises resellers to be prepared for possible product shortages in August.  It also hints that the supplies of some Mac notebooks and current model iPods will soon become very short.

Michael Dell further told that their move towards open source mobile operating system like Google’s Android and Nokia’s Symbian would promise an exciting time for the company. It is worth mentioning that Michael became the head of the company in an attempt to save from a bad patch that made the company fall behind rival Hewlett Packard.

“We are seeing the things happening and almost all smartphone categories are being looked at but still we expect anything soon.” Dell stated

While announcing these details at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) ,David Reeves, SCEE boss told that 27th August would be the arrival date of 80GB PS3 in Europe, Middle East, Australia , New Zealand and Africa.  In Europe its price would be 399euros and 299 pounds in the U.K., however, according to Sony Computer Entertainment Australia spokesman, the pricing for Australia would be announced soon. So far PSP and PlayStation 2 are concerned; Reeves told that would be no price drop in Europe.

The current 40GB SKU will be replaced with 80GB model just like in the US, and on the 40GB model there would be no price drop in the interim, Reeves further told.

According to Reeves the Platinum array of PS3 games will be available in the SCEE territories soon with tiles like Fall of Man, MotorStorm, Drake’s Fortune, Virtua Tennis 3 and Assassin’s Creed while WWE SmackDown! Vs. RAW will arrive in September this year. The platinum games will set back 29.99 euros in Europe, 19.99 pounds in the U.K , A$ 49 in Australia and NZ$59 in New Zealand.
